film / Structured online course
Learn to make one honest cinematic frame from a real Camp Denman place, then defend the choices.
2 sample lessons / 2 assignment briefs
Camp Denman sits on the Elkhaven oceanfront: forest to the water and almost a thousand feet of Baynes Sound. A cinematic frame starts there, not in a generic landscape prompt. Look at the published Elkhaven still in the Story Studio library. Write down: what is closest to the lens, what is in the middle distance, and what the water is doing. Then name one feeling the frame should carry — not a genre, a feeling a visitor could actually have on that shore. Your first assignment is one still. Subject, lens, motion, light, and sound all have to answer to that specific place. If the result could be any coastline, start again.
A fancy camera move is usually covering an unspecific place. For the second pass, keep the camera almost still. Let the tide, the trees, or a shift in cloud do the work. Compare two frames: the first with the move you wanted, the second with almost none. Keep the one where the shoreline still reads after you look away.
sound / Structured online course
Teach conservative restoration: name what the recording is trying to keep, then use Sound Lab tools without erasing the room.
3 sample lessons / 3 assignment briefs
Before you reduce noise, name what the recording is trying to keep. Room tone is usually part of the truth. Breath is often part of the performance. Hiss is usually not. Play the source once without touching a tool. Write three words for damage and three words for character. Only then open Sound Lab. A conservative restoration protects the character and removes only the damage you named. If the output sounds like a different room, you went too far.
Once a restoration holds, learn the two tools this course actually needs: Split stems, then Master demo. Stems let you hear whether the voice, the room, and the noise live in different places. Mastering a demo is not making a record. It is making the piece listenable on a phone and on the ocean deck speakers without crushing the dynamics you just protected. Do not master before you can name the stem that still has the problem.
Podcast cleanup is for speech that has to be understood, not for making someone sound famous. Use it when the assignment is a talking document: an interview, a process note, a walk along the deck. Listen for intelligibility first. If a sentence is lost, the episode is lost. Then listen for fatigue — sibilance, pumping, a gate that chews the breaths you decided to keep.
vibe coding / Structured online course
Write and structure a short story that can only happen at a real Camp Denman place.
1 sample lesson / 1 assignment brief
Open the Story Studio library scenes: Elkhaven oceanfront, the canvas tent camp, the recording studio, the ocean deck. These are photographs of the property. They are not generated places and they are not characters. Choose one. Write 200–400 words that could only happen there. If you can move the story to another camp and it still works, it is not finished. Do not invent a real person. If a figure appears, they are a guest you made up for the exercise, unnamed, and they do not resemble anyone on staff.
